12 листопада 2023 р. Б. відбулася проща до василіянського монастиря у Ґлен-Коув (США) з нагоди 400-ліття мученицької смерті святого священномученика Йосафата Кунцевича. Про особливості паломництва повідомляють її безпосередні учасники.

 

Щороку, а особливо в цей ювілейний рік 400-ліття мучеництва, ми стараємося в найкращий спосіб вшанувати великого святого українського народу – святого священномученика Йосафата. Він тілом і кров’ю походив з нашого люду, але духом і святістю свого життя перевершував, здається, як і людей свого часу, так і наших сучасників. Ми не знаємо міри Господньої, як Бог оцінює життя своїх святих. Однак пам’ятаємо виразні слова Ісуса Христа: «Ніхто не спроможен любити більше, ніж тоді, коли він за своїх друзів своє життя віддає» (Йо. 15,13). А святий Йосафат вчинив це, показуючи правдиву любов до Бога та ближнього.

У день спогадування його пам’яті відбулася надзвичайна зустріч єднання в Божій Любові: «Щоб всі були одно» (Йо. 17,21), – як прагнув Апостол єдності. І символічно, що відбулася ця зустріч у монастирі святого Йосафата у Ґлен-Коув.

​

З’їхалося на прощу чимало людей (близько 230 прочан), які мали можливість приступити до Святої Тайни Сповіді, прийняти участь у Архиєрейській Божественній Літургії, звеличити святого Йосафата у Молебні у його честь, розділити спільну трапезу…, а ще у вільну хвилину прогулятися по території монастиря, «погортати під ногами осінь», і помилуватися надзвичайно красивим видом на океан.

 

Перед початком Святої Літургії Протоігумен о. Василь Салковський, ЧСВВ в імені ченців Провінції Успіння Пресвятої Богородиці в США перед входом до каплиці привітав владику Павла Хомницького, ЧСВВ, Єпарха Стемфордського й передав йому хрест, яким єпископ благословив всіх вірних й процесійно під спів «Нехай буде ім’я Господнє благословенне» увійшов до каплиці.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Урочисту Архиєрейську Божественну Літургію відслужив Владика Павло у співслужінні з отцем Протоігуменом Василем Салковським, ЧСВВ, отцем Йоаном Лубівим, ЧСВВ й дияконом Методієм Сорокою, ЧСВВ. Під час проповіді владика Павло привітав отця Протоігумена й усіх священників, а в особливий спосіб прочан, які прибули на ці завершальні святкування ювілейного року св. свмч. Йосафата. Преосвященний владика наголосив на важливих рисах святого та богоугодного життя святого Йосафата, мученика за єдність Церкви. Вже з дитинства батьки прищепили йому любов до Бога, до молитви, до Церкви та свого народу. Ще будучи дитиною Іван Кунцевич відчув Божий поклик, щоб служити Йому. Опісля, вступивши до василіянського монастиря у м. Вільнюсі, він цілопально посвячується Богові: як звичайний монах, як священник та як єпископ – усе його святе життя було життям молитви та жертовної праці. Своєю мученицькою смертю святий Йосафат прославив Бога. Для нас усіх він є прикладом для наслідування Христа та жертовної праці на благо своєї Церкви та свого народу.

 

На завершення Святої Літургії отець Протоігумен подякував владиці Павлові за його служіння. Рівно ж о. Василь наголосив на важливості відновлення та ремонту реколекційного дому, у якому вже понад 60 років люди доброї волі збираються на молитву та на реколекції. Отець Протоігумен підкреслив, що першим Директором реколекційного дому був о. Вернард Панчук, ЧСВВ, який також проводив духовні заходи, проповідував реколекції, приготовляв молодят до Святої Тайни Подружжя тощо.

 

Відтак Архиєрей благословив ювілейну ікону святого Йосафата, яку написала п. Оля Боринець з Нью Йорка, і яка відтепер зберігатиметься в Провінційному домі.

 

Перед обідом Владика Павло, о. Йоан благословив відреставрований реколекційний дім святого Йосафата, який і надалі буде місцем духовних вправ, реколекцій, зустрічей, дитячих таборів – місцем, де вірні матимуть можливість духовно збагатитись та фізично відпочити. Під час благословення реколекційного дому владика Павло та отець Протоігумен мирували вірних.

 

Після обіду о. Йоан відслужив Молебень до священномученика Йосафата. У проповіді ієромонах наголосив на особі Доброго Пастиря – Христа Спасителя, якого наслідував владика Йосафат Кунцевич. «Коли ми у спільноті, ми сильні, ми – непереможні. Але коли ми залишаємося одною загубленою овечкою, нас вовк може легко з’їсти. Тому добрий воїн завжди співпрацює з іншими. Ми бажаємо вам всім цього – бути тими, хто докладає багато зусиль і співпрацює з іншими. І Боже благословення буде з нами… І нехай Святий Йосафат єднає нас і допомагає зростати у святості!» – побажав проповідник

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Справжньою окрасою святкування був спів хорового колективу «Істина» церкви святого Юрія у Нью Йорку. Літургійний спів, Молебень до святого Йосафата, пісні «Владико Отче», «Пісню слави заспіваймо» та інші духовні твори, які підспівували всі присутні, неначе на ангельських крилах підносилися багатоголоссям над монастирем. На завершення прощі отець Протоігумен поблагословив всіх прочан мощами священномученика Йосафата, які були виставлені перед його статуєю.

 

Висловлюємо вдячність організаторам прощі за щедрість та василіянську гостинність. Хай Господь за молитвами та заступництвом священномученика Йосафата благословить нашу Церкву, наш народ, наш Чин, особливо Провінцію Успіння Пресвятої Богородиці в США, добрими, ревними та святими покликаннями до Василіянського Чину!

THE CLOSING OF THE 400th JUBILEE OF THE MARTYRDOM

OF SAINT JOSAPHAT IN THE AMERICAN PROVINCE OF 

THE DORMITION OF THE BLESSED MOTHER OF GOD IN THE U.S.

 

 

 

The Order of Saint Basil the Great celebrated worldwide the 400th Jubilee of the Martyrdom of Saint Josaphat for one whole year. These celebrations began at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome on the Feast Day of Saint Josaphat November 12, 2022, at the Saint Basil altar, where the body of St. Josaphat is safely kept. Throughout the whole year, we paid tribute and praised God for the gift of the man that not only changed his Religious Community for the better, but gave his life for the unity of the Church of Christ. Today, 400 years later, the Order of St. Basil the Great is known as the Basilian Order of Saint Josaphat.

 

Sunday, November 12, 2023 a great number – 230 and plus – faithful from the vicinity got together on the grounds of St. Josaphat Monastery in Glen Cove, NY for the Jubilee Pilgrimage and closing of the Jubilee Year at Saint Josaphat Retreat House. As in all pilgrimages, one of the highlights of the event is the Sacrament of Confession. For that, Fr. Philip Sandrick, OSBM; Fr. Mario Dacechen, OSBM and Fr. Andrew Kornelyuk, OSBM, heard Confessions throughout the morning.

 

At about 10:30, Father Basil Salkovski, OSBM, the Provincial Superior of the American Province, awaited the procession at the entrance to the chapel and greeted the Stamford Eparch, His Excellency, Bishop Chomnycky, OSBM, along with Father Yoan Lubiv, OSBM, Deacon Methodius Soroka, OSBM, and the altar servers. After the greetings, Bishop Paul took the cross and blessed the people and the procession entered the chapel under the choir’s leading song of praise: “Blessed be the name of the Lord.” At that point, the chapel was completely filled up to maximum capacity by the faithful for the entire service. Saint George’s Church Choir beautifully and in suiting melody sang Solemn Divine Liturgy and the faithful sang along with them. After the proclamation of the Gospel, Bishop Paul preached the homily in two languages: Ukrainian and English. At the beginning, he greeted the Provincial Superior, all of the Basilian Fathers and Brothers, and, he especially congratulated and welcomed the faithful pilgrims who traveled from various parishes near and afar to the closing of the 400th Jubilee celebration in commemoration of the Martyrdom of St. Josaphat. Bishop Paul emphasized upon the valuable contribution that Saint Josaphat made to the Religious Order of St. Basil the Great, to the Catholic Church as a whole, and to all the faithful, as he laid down his life for the love of God. As the bishop highlighted, “Saint Josaphat consecrated himself to a life of prayer, service to one another, so that “all may be one” (Jn. 17:21). In his ultimate sacrifice, ‘in death – as martyr – Saint Josaphat glorified God’. ‘Today, for all of us, Saint Josaphat becomes a living witness of how to care for God’s people and how to tend to the needs of the Church and one’s nation.” 

 

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Father Provincial took the opportunity to thank the Bishop for the visit and his loving pastoral care and service. Father said, very proudly, that the recently-completed renovations and repairs done at the Retreat House are a testimony to the commitment that the Order of St. Basil the Great has for its ministry. It has been over 60 years since the Retreat House was established, and it continues to serve the same purpose: as it was back then, the Retreat House continues to be a place for prayer, reflection, spiritual retreats and a peaceful place of rest. Father Basil mentioned the name of Father Bernard Panczuk, OSBM, as being the first Retreat House Director. Father Panczuk was not only the director, but he himself prepared and delivered conferences, wedding preparations, spiritual retreats, youth retreats and so forth. 

 

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop blessed the newly-made Icon of Saint Josaphat. In that icon, we have the majestic figure of Bishop-Martyr Josaphat, holding in his hands the ax which caused his death and the lily palm representing martyrdom. At the foot of the icon, we see Saint Josaphat Monastery which is in Glen Cove, New York and Saint Josaphat Church, which is in Warren, Michigan, and Saint Josaphat stands above, as if to portray that he is to continue protecting and blessing the work of the Basilian Fathers, especially those in the American Province. Having blessed the icon, our Bishop blessed the newly-remodeled Retreat House. Services in the chapel ended with the anointing of the faithful – just in time to break for lunch, which people took advantage of it. Everyone enjoyed a simple but tasty meal prepared and served by the wonderful volunteers in the kitchen. 

 

Our final prayer was the Moleben service that was celebrated outside in front of the statue of St. Josaphat, with his holy relics beautifully displayed in front of the statue. The Ihumen Superior from Saint George’s Church Father Yoan Lubiv, OSBM, and Father Andrew Kornelyuk, OSBM, led the Moleben service, which was attended by at least 100 people. After the Gospel reading, both priests, simultaneously in both languages, gave the homily focused upon Saint Josaphat’s virtuous life. Father Lubiv spoke about the “Good Shepherd – Christ Himself.” “Saint Josaphat was a good shepherd, like Christ. Just like St. Josaphat, we have to work with one another and support one another. We need unity, for it is in unity that we find strength. In unity, we find support. It is by giving each other a helping hand that we are strong. In Christ and through Christ, we become undefeated.”

 

Here at the end, it is absolutely necessary to express a well-deserved thank you to the members of Saint George’s Choir. They did a phenomenal job in leading us in prayer, and they led us in prayer joyfully. At the very end, Father Yoan thanked the organizers, especially Father Basil for the preparations of the pilgrimage and for a truly Basilian cordial accommodation. As the choir finished singing hymns of praises, Father Basil bestowed the closing final blessing with the relics of Saint Josaphat: “may God through the prayers and intercessions of Saint Josaphat bless our Church, our people, the members of the Order of Saint Basil the Great, especially the members of the American Province of the Dormition of the Mother of God with numerous and holy vocations.”
